Coronavirus: Social Distancing enforcement by Lagos State Government

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday banned all religious gathering with over 50 people within the state. The decision was arrived at after a meeting of the government and religious bodies in the state. The religious bodies include the Christian Association of Nigeria and Muslim leaders. This is a wonderful development. If Lagos State government is enforcing this to reduce risk and prevent  COVID-19. We should support them by replicating this in our work place, events and so on. The spread around the world is fast and high so we need to be at alert.  I hope other state follow suit. What do you think of the ban?

Highlights on Coronavirus Situation in Nigeria

According to Nigeria Center for Disease Control , Nigeria has only two confirmed cases and 0 death. Here are the highlights  On the 11th of March 2020,  no new  confirmed case of COVID-19 recorded in Nigeria Cummulatively, there are two (2) confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria Apart from the index case, a total of 40 people have been screened for COVID-19 (7 new) in 5 States (Edo, Lagos, Ogun, FCT and Kano) out of which 39 tested negative and have been ruled out, while one confirmed positive which is a contact of index case with no death The two confirmed cases are clinically stable at the designated treatment facility for COVID-19 at the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH), Yaba, Lagos A multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC), activated at level 3, continues to coordinate the national response activities. CoronaVirus Prevention: Social Distancing ?

There has been over 118,000 cases and 3,900 deaths in over 110 countries — health and government officials are scrambling to get a handle on what the Word Health Organization (WHO) has officially  declared a pandemic . The WHO is advising that people observe "social distancing " which is one of the preventive methods. According to CDC’s recommendation, social distancing involves “remaining out of congregate settings, avoiding mass gatherings, and maintaining distance” whenever possible to limit the ability of the virus to spread. Accessing transportation and public services like the bank or store can be challenging, as can socializing in public settings or attending a place of worship. Social distancing in these cases means doing the best that you can of the situation to limit your chances of getting infected.
